1. General overview

First Reference Inc. ("First Reference") recognizes the importance of an individual's right to keep personally identifiable information (“PII”) private. PII means information about an identifiable individual; in other words, it is information by which the identity of an individual could be deduced, such as, residential address and telephone number, email address, product preferences and other personal information. It does not include name, position or title, business address or business telephone number of an employee of an organization. It also excludes specified publicly available information, such as information listed in a telephone directory.

First Reference’s business involves the sale of our products and associated services on a business-to-business basis. As such, business information is preferred over PII for all business-to-business transactions.

This Privacy Policy explains how First Reference will collect, use, disclose and store the PII you provide us when you subscribe to one of our paper, electronic or online products or services; when you complete a customer survey; or when you access our website or communicate with us electronically.

2. Consent

Your access to our website and/or purchase of, and/or subscription to, any of our products signifies your consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your PII in the manner described in this Privacy Policy, as amended from time to time. First Reference will notify subscribers via electronic mail or regular mail in advance of any material changes to this Privacy Policy, however we reserve the right to revise this Privacy Policy, without notice, by updating this webpage. Your continued use of this website and/or purchase of, and/or subscription to, any of our products after revisions are made, constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy. Please check this webpage for the most current version of the Privacy Policy.

3. Links to third party sites

Our electronic and online products or services may contain links to other third party websites which are not owned or operated by First Reference. While we try to link only to sites that share our similar standards, objectives and respect for privacy, these links are provided as a convenience only and do not imply an endorsement of the linked site. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of any such third party websites, including such websites’ use of any PII that you may provide to them. We strongly encourage you to always be aware of the Internet sites you are browsing and their privacy policies. First Reference cannot, and does not, assume responsibility for the privacy or information policies, practices or actions of any third parties.

4. Collection and use of PII

When you participate in a free trial, purchase a license or subscribe to one of our products or services, or participate in surveys, forums or discussion groups (when made available), First Reference may ask you to provide certain information about yourself and the company you work for, including contact data, email addresses, product preferences, payment information and other relevant marketing data. While some of the information requested is optional, some activities require the mandatory disclosure of certain information. If you choose not to provide the mandatory data with respect to a particular activity, you will not be able to engage in that activity.

We use the PII that you provide to:

If you tell us in writing or by email that you wish to opt out of any communications from First Reference, we will respect your request. However, because we will occasionally need to send you certain messages that are important to your use of the website or our products and services (such as system status updates or order confirmations), we reserve the right to contact you in such circumstances. As such, you will not be able to "opt out" of receiving such messages.

First Reference may make aggregate information about our subscribers (e.g., overall statistics) available to third parties for advertising, marketing services and other purposes. Because this information is not identifiable to specific individuals, it is not considered PII.

The PII that you provide to First Reference will not be made available to any third parties or disclosed, except as described above or when we believe is required by law, without your prior permission.

If third party contractors are used to process any of the information collected or to provide marketing services on behalf of First Reference, we will ensure that these providers are bound by contract to comply with applicable privacy laws.

As such, First Reference cannot, and does not, assume any liability for the theft, loss, misuse or alteration of any information transmitted over the Internet. If you decide to order or register online with us, we may collect additional information. In this case, we use cookies to recognize you on subsequent visits and make your online experience more convenient, unless prohibited by law. A cookie cannot be executed as code or deliver viruses.
