When you download the update you will be prompted to "Run" or "Save" the install package.

"Save" lets you specify where the setup file goes just in case you need to reinstall it, or need to install HRtrack on another computer. You will then need to manually start the install.

"Run" starts the installation process once the setup file is downloaded to your temporary internet folder. When you empty the folder the installation package is deleted.



No, you will not lose any of your work. HRtrack does not delete or lock any data if a trial expires. Any data you added will be available when you subscribe.



No. You can use HRtrack without Outlook. The integration module is disabled when you install HRtrack. If you choose to enable Outlook integration, HRtrack will populate your Outlook calendar with tasks and reminders from HRtrack.



The Probationary, Performance and Disciplinary review templates are in Microsoft Word format and are designed to be used within the HRtrack workspace. If you do not have Microsoft Office you may not be able to take advantage of these features of HRtrack.



Yes. HRtrack is compatible with Office 2003 through Office 2010.



Yes, your HRtrack data can be stored on a network drive or a shared folder. However, the HRtrack software must be installed locally on your computer to ensure all of the necessary Windows controls are installed and registered. The HRtrack data folder can then be copied to a network drive and you can connect to the database in the network folder.



Yes, more than one person can use HRtrack, although each user requires a valid Registration Code.



HRtrack was designed to be installed on the end-users' computer and not for use in virtual installation. Depending on the configuration of the Citrix environment, it may be possible to successfully run HRtrack, but First Reference does not recommend, nor currently support, these installations.

Some historical data can be entered into HRtrack. There is currently no facility to import historical data from another source.

  • Vacation (Please see the HRtrack help topic titled Input Vacation History before creating any vacation periods.)
  • position and wage
  • absenteeism and leaves
  • reviews and evaluations
  • training



Yes, you can import a limited amount of employee data from an Excel® file. However, the import process has stringent requirements with regard to the formatting of the file being imported. For more information, please see the HRtrack help topic titled Import Employee Records from Excel®.



Yes, although you must input any historical vacation information before creating a current vacation period for the employee. You must also create and complete the vacation periods in chronological order so that you end with the current period. For more information, please see the HRtrack help topic titled Input Vacation History..

Ensure that software has been installed to the user’s local drive and that the user has full read/write/execute priviliges to both the install folder and the data folder. First Reference software is profile-based and must be installed and activated under the profile of the user. If the user does not have install privileges, privileges must be granted for the period of the install and can be removed after.

If your company database does not appear in the list of companies on the Change Company dialogue box, you need to manually navigate to the folder where it is stored. Click the Browse button and navigate to the appropriate folder.



This error occurs because the user account does not have access to the Documents tab. The user account will need to be deleted and recreated. To do this:

  1. Login to the database using the Admin account.
  2. Click on Company Settings and open the Users & Permissions Manager
  3. Delete the user account where the error occurred
  4. Recreate the user account
This error does not occur if logged in as Admin.



  1. Reinstall HRtrack.
  2. When the Program Maintainance screen appears, select the Repair option.



Click Ignore for each of the messages.



The connection between the download package and the installed MSI is corrupt. To correct this:

  1. Rerun the install package for the HRtrack release currently installed.
  2. When the Program Maintainance screen appears, select the Remove option.
  3. Install the latest version of HRtrack.



This error occurs if only version 4 of the .NET framework is installed. HRtrack requires .NET framework version 3.5 SP1. Version 3.5 SP1 can be downloaded from the Microsoft Download Center.



Install the Crystal Reports viewer. It can be downloaded from www.firstreference.com/hrtrack/online/download/download-msi.asp.



The document to be edited should open in the window, not in a separate instance of Word. To correct this click Help > Why are Office documents not opening within HRtrack and accept the suggested Registry changes.



Due to compatibility issues, the Outlook viewer in the HRtrack fly-out calendar has been disabled as of release 2010-02. This does not affect the Outlook-integration. Any dates entered into HRtrack that have been selected to pushed to Outlook will still be sent. However, you now have to view those items from within Outlook, rather than from the fly-out calendar in HRtrack.

HRtrack requires the following components in order to operate:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework Version 3.5
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 7 or higher
  • Microsoft Outlook (or Office) 2003 or higher (for Outlook integration)
  • Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) Version 2.8 (XP users only)
