Customize a Policy

Customize a Policy

PolicyPro has two main document types:

  • Model policies—These documents are in pdf format and can only be updated by First Reference. Each Model policy has a corresponding policy Overview that outlines any issues that need to be considered when creating that policy. For information about viewing the policy Overview, click here.
  • User-created documents— Although Draft, Official and Archive policies are generated from the Model policies, these documents are considered user-created. These documents are in Microsoft Word® format and can be customized. Forms and attachments to policies are also considered user-created documents.

To create your policy manual, use the Model policies as templates. You can choose which policies to include in your manual, rename and renumber the policies to reflect your workplace, and add policies from other sources if they are in Word format.

You must create a Draft version from the Model policy in order to customize the policy to fit your organization's specific requirements.

Workflow

We suggest that you create and modify your policies in the Draft Version. When the revisions to your policies are complete and the policies are finalized, promote the Draft to Official. Use the Official Version Set as your company's current reference document.
